Projects

Adaptive Handcycle Project

This project aims to solve the needs of individuals rehabilitating from spinal cord injuries. Our mechanical team is developing the handcycle with Bowhead Corporation as their advisor.

Currently, the project is still in the design and development phase but will soon be progressing to the physical prototyping stage

Meanwhile, this month, the team has been developing the CAD models for the frame, mounting and lifting sub-systems as well as conducting FEA on CAD files and purchasing parts to build preliminary prototypes.

BIOMOD

The DNADetect project is a nanoscale biosensor that quickly detects neurovascular damage to diagnose neurodegenerative disorders early.

Our BIOMOD team have been working on this project and their focus has been synthesizing the detection unit (the aptamer) of the biosensor.

Although the team recently faced a major setback in which the results from the sensor were either absent or inconclusive, they managed to resolve the issue and get back on track with the project timeline.

This served as a learning opportunity for improving skills like working backwards, troubleshooting and planning for failure in the design and development process.

Biofeedback Stepping and Walking Aid

Our Software team has been working on an improved walking aid that facilitates effective recovery and improvement in individuals who require walking assistance.

This month has been busy with the team making several updates to the project. New features and components have been added including a step counter, speed and distance measurements, and an LCD screen.

The step counter was designed and tested using an IR sensor to detect when a shoe passes a threshold. The team are also in the process of finalizing the LCD screen display and implementing touchscreen capability. Finally, changes to the graphical display were also made this month.

Team Achievements

Celebrating Success!

Congratulations to our Biomechanical and Cell & Chem subteams for their recent achievements!
