Projects

TV Remote

The electrical team has been hard at work improving the dementia-friendly TV remote project. A significant new addition to the design was a unique and highly sought-after “find my remote” feature which contains a buzzer to alert the user of the remote’s position.

The electrical team has also been working closely with the software and mechanical teams on several more updates, such as making the remote waterproof, improving ergonomics, and improving safety features (like making it child-safe).

Furthermore, the team has been implementing new learning tasks and standardized methodology when leading their groups to teach students about agile-based environments and to prepare them for internships and more. This includes implementing GitHub projects and using GitHub to schedule and track progress, as well as introducing students to Git and version control.

Adaptive Handcycle Project

The mechanical team have been busy finalizing aspects of the design this October. This includes receiving extrusions and fasteners to begin assembly of the frame, finalizing the manufacturing plan for mounting brackets and clamps that would support the trainer, finalizing the materials and additional components required for containing the control system, purchasing the materials to build the frame, and finalizing the casters and leveling feet of the frame.

BIOMOD

The BIOMOD team is now in the later stages of preparation for the competition, having just completed their final recruitment period. They have been focused on analyzing results, compiling content for their Wiki, and producing a live presentation and YouTube video. Moreover, although the team will be in Japan for the competition, they will also be presenting at the Undergraduate Research Symposium via a presentation video.

Events

Schulich Engineering Competition

Our team recently participated in the Schulich Engineering Competition (SEC) and secured a victory in the Innovative Design bracket! The SEC is hosted yearly by the Engineering Students Society, with six categories to participate in. Presenting our research in Saskatoon, us along with other winners will be moving on to compete in the Western Engineering Competition (WEC).

Open House Recap

On Saturday, our team had a fantastic experience representing our club at the UCalgary Open House! We enjoyed connecting with prospective students, sharing insights about engineering, and giving them a glimpse into university life
