On Thursday, February 20th, the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering hosted its annual Women in Engineering Day, an event created to encourage high school girls to explore their passions in math, science, and engineering. With over 300 students in attendance this year, the event featured hands-on activities, an exploration of our campus, clubs and design teams, and insights into the world of engineering, from the perspective of current students as well as successful women leaders in the field.
As part of our contribution, BMERIT had the privilege of supporting the event by volunteering during the Exploring Biomedical Engineering and User Testing sessions, led by Dr. Curiel. Through these sessions, students were introduced to the innovative and impactful nature of biomedical engineering, and had the opportunity to participate in engaging learning activities, all relevant to the core aspects of the biomedical design process. It was a great chance for students to experience first-hand how engineers work to create solutions that improve the world around us.
