BioDesign Synergy

Biodesign Synergy, co-hosted annually by bioengineering clubs at the University of Calgary (BMERIT) and McGill University (McGill Biodesign), is a national student-led event that celebrates bioengineering in Canada. Held in the last week of August each year, the event brings together university design teams to showcase their projects, foster collaboration, and receive feedback from industry professionals. This competition promotes innovation and networking within the bioengineering community.

Design teams will have the opportunity to compete, and be evaluated by a panel of industry professionals. In addition to the event there will be networking sessions where all participants can connect with experts and peers in the field.

2024 Projects

This year, the event ran successfully for 2 days with several teams joining us to present their projects from different universities across Canada. Teams presented their projects, certificates were awarded to the best teams. Startups got a chance to show their companies and students engaged in valuable networking with industry professionals, professors, and each other. The event was a success and a chance to celebrate the progress and ideas pushing the field forward.

Our team presented the CyberStride project—a walker design that provides physiotherapists with quantitative data, streamlining the treatment process.

We won the Best Technical Execution award, with judges commenting, “They emphasized the critical nature of meticulous design and flawless execution, shedding light on the specific challenges associated with portability during usage.” Congratulations to our design team for their outstanding work on CyberStride!
